Movie Review Prep

Richard Phillips:

1. I expect the main characters to be Richard Phillips, Frank Castellano, and Abduwali Muse.

2.
The story would likely begin with dialogue that highlights the fact that Somali pirates could be around, and that it would be wise to stay at least 600 miles away from Somalia's coast of East Africa. It would show the pirates sneaking onto board, and show how the crew sunk the pirate's boat by ruining the rudder. The crew members would hide in the engine room, and then overpower one of the pirates. They would show Phillips offering himself up to prevent anyone else getting hurt. He would be taken prisoner and sacrifice himself for the others on the ship.
They would show the exchange of Phillips for the pirate, and then the betrayal when the pirate was freed, but Phillips was not. They would show the ship being handled as a crime scene, and then the fight scene between the pirates and the crew, Phillips still in the pirates' custody. They would likely dramatize and prolong this standoff, and then have an intense conclusion, in which the three pirates were killed, and Phillips was allowed to go free. Abduwali would be the only surviving pirate, confessing to his crimes and being sentenced to 33 years in prison.

3. This story was important because it did not only help us remember that pirates really exist, and the state of Somalia, but it tells us a hero's tale about a real person.

4. The pirates tried to take the ship because they wanted money, and were thinking they could get money from the ship, or that they could keep it hostage until they were paid.
