Composition 2

Symmetry and Patterns
The eyes will immediately go to the building in the middle, which divides symmetrically and is pleasing to the eye. However, the smoke will lead to the building beside it, and will intentionally upset the balance; the eyes then focus on the damaged building, making the atmosphere tense and making the damaged building a focal point.
Viewpoint
Shooting this photo from above gives a better idea on the devastation the firefighters must face, as they attempt to put out a fire in the building that has persisted about a month after 9/11. The subjects are still visible because of the white spray of the water, which brings attention to them among the chaos.
Create depth
This image creates depth because there isn’t a single subject here; while there is somewhat of a subject, you are not completely sucked into them. You are also forced to look at the people around, concerned for the man being helped in this photo, and the buildings in the background are still clear. You stand at the edge of the scene, but you can still easily walk through it.
Cropping
This image is only a small part of a greater sculpture and bigger idea, but we will focus on them because that is the intention of a cropping photo.
