Media literacy

1. Three sources that mostly stick to the facts and remain relatively neutral are Bloomberg, Reuters, and AP.

2. Three sources that are mostly analysis and slant liberal are Daily Beast, Mic, and Vanity Fair.

3. Three sources that are mostly analysis and slant conservative are National Review, Standard, and Reason.com.

4. Two liberal sources with extreme partisan bias are David Wolfe and Occupy Democrats. Two conservative sources that display extreme partisan bias are the Daily Caller and Fox News.

5. Facts are true statements that have adequate proof to display how genuine these statements are.

6. Opinions are people's personal beliefs on a matter based on their emotions and experiences, which can impact how such thoughts can be displayed.

7. Informed opinions are a person's view on a certain subject, but from such a person that is incredibly familiar with facts and relatively objective thinking, and can put forward an educated and knowledgeable outlook on things.

8. I might prefer to search out facts for the Dispatch from considerably factual and neutral sources, such as Bloomberg, Reuters, and AP.

9. When looking for informed opinions on a subject, I would search out someone who knows an exceptional amount about the subject and/or story, and can give me an opinion that has some truth mixed into it.

10. If I am writing a news report on a subject that I feel particularly passionate about or have a strong opinion of, some of my opinions may end up creeping into and getting embedded in my writing.

11. Some specific words that can hint me into realizing that I expressed personal opinions in my writing could be using personal pronouns, such as 'I' and 'we,' using opinion words such as 'think and feel,' and things such as 'personally' and 'in my opinion.'

12. The first amendment is the amendment that specifically expresses the right of the press.

13. The amendment specifically states that Congress cannot force a certain religion on the country, cannot forbid anyone from practicing a certain religion, cannot restrict free speech or freely expressing opinions or facts in the news, cannot restrain people from peacefully assembling, no matter the reason for that assembly, and cannot ban someone from sending their grievances to the government.

14. I believe that the purpose of journalism and the news is to inform people of what's happening around them, what's happening in the world, to spark interest and discussion about certain matters, and, overall, to serve the public and influence the way they will do certain things, change the way they will live, and warn people to be self-aware. and alert of how they may alter the world.

15. I notice that all of the headlines show slight traces of their person biases in the matter.

16. I think I can see some of the biases of each of the media outlets, based on how the headlines seemed to all lean a certain way on each of matters discussed.

17. I think Fox News and Brietbart are covering different things on their front pages because there are already so many news channels focusing on the subject, that they believe posting about other things might draw attention from those who are disinterested in the subject, for the most part.

18. I think that the diversity in having different news channels treat coverage differently is the very reason these media outlets can coexist without too many people claiming that two platforms are far too similar, and one might be copying the other.

19. I believe it's alright for media outlets to have and share their certain opinions on specific subjects, so long as the people who read these articles are aware that these articles have personal opinions in them, and should not be particularly accepted as fact.

20. I think you can benefit from reading news sources with different opinions than you so that you can be informed on how other people in the world think about a certain subject, and so that you can see their reasoning on a subject, and perhaps even shift your opinions based on their convictions.

21. I think the media can be accurate in the way that they report things by doing their best to stick to the cold, hard facts, while attempting to keep personal opinions, grievances, and sympathies out of the report. I understand that this may be difficult, which is why it is valuable to look at multiple sources that have overlapping facts.
