Some basic rules of volleyball include:

  • There are always six players on the court at a time, three at the front, three at the back
  • You may have three hits per side
  • A player may not touch the ball twice in succession
  • If a ball is on the line, it is still in
Some examples of jargon in volleyball include:

  • Ace: A serve that lands on the opponent's side of the court without being touched, or, if it is received, the receive is ineffective and cannot be kept in play.
  • Double: When the same player hits the ball twice consecutively. This is not allowed, and will earn a point for the other team.
  • Dump: A surprise attack normally done by a player in the front to catch the defense off guard, meant to land in the middle of the court in the spots difficult for the other side to receive.

An example of a cliche in volleyball is, "We'll take it one game at a time." This can be phrased differently by saying, "Focus on the current game. Don't worry about the future until you win this one."
One example of a volleyball legend would be Lang Ping. She was born in Tianjin, China. She attended Beijing Normal University and the University of New Mexico. She played for the Chinese National Team. Her and her team were the first to win the World Championship multiple times, and she is the first person to have won a gold medal at the Olympics and World Cup as both a player and a coach.
